In
response to the need for a more comprehensive education
programme in the field of Integrated Assessment, an international
Master's program has been established at the University of Osnabrück
(Germany) and the University of
Twente (Netherlands). Integrated
assessment (IA) is commonly defined as the multi-disciplinary
process that integrates knowledge about a problem and makes this
information available for decision-making processes.
The
two-year programme teaches students new approaches to dealing with
complex social and environmental problems. Students examine theory
and methods with examples from recent case studies and apply these
elements to practical projects involving the analysis and management of
human-environment-technology systems. Through this comprehensive
programme, they develop the skills
needed to tackle multi-faceted problems by combining knowledge from
diverse scientific disciplines together with public values and beliefs
about a problem. The curriculum is based on
European-based teaching expertise and practical experience.
Scientists and
practitioners in
the
field of IA
are in need of individuals with the knowledge an skills to carry out
integrated assessments. Graduates will have
excellent opportunities to secure employment in industry, consulting
and public authorities in diverse fields such as water management,
transportation modelling, and urban planning.
